Hardware Instructions

The PJB-100 requires a computer with Windows 98/2000 or MacOS and USB port

The software supplied is capable of converting audio CD data into MP3 files and download those files directly to the hard disk drive of the PJB-100. This procedure prevents the use of the hard disk drive in your computer and does therefore not require large amounts of disk space. The data of one audio CD can be transferred within 10 to 15 minutes.

With this software you can also copy MP3 files, which are located on your computer's hard disk drive (downloaded from the Internet) to the PJB-100. It takes approx. 15 seconds to download a 4 minute MP3 song to the PJB-100.

The software for the Personal Jukebox PJB-100 (included)

Before you start the software "Personal Jukebox" on your computer you have to connect the PJB-100 to the computer and switch it on. This is necessary to allow for the data transfer. After you have finished the above procedure you will see the following screen...

The user interface of the software is very similar to Windows-Explorer and therefore easy to use. If you would like to save your Audio CD songs as MP3 files on the PJB-100's hard disk drive you chose the menu "Jukebox" and then the command "Capture CD-Audio". The music files will be transferred directly from the CD to the hard disk drive of the PJB-100. This means the hard disk drive of the computer will not be used for temporary storage.

If you would like to transfer music files from the computer's hard disk drive to the PJB-100 you just select the folder of your choice and the contents will appear under "Track Name".

The CDDB-Mode allows you to name your CD and songs automatically within seconds . Press the button "Title" and the program searches the informations from the web. Further information about this can be found at http://www.cddb.com .

Only one click on the "OK" button is necessary to start the transfer of the songs ...

To transfer data from a CD to the PJBox:
1. Connect the PJBox with the USB cable to the computer
2. Start the PJBox
3. Open the Jukebox Manager software in the computer
4. Go to the menu “Jukebox” and choose the menu point “select Jukebox” and choose your PJBox

Important: The PJBox must be switched on, otherwise no data can be transferred.

If the computer can’t find the Jukebox:

1. Uninstall the Jukebox Manager software
2. Connect the PJBox to the computer via the USB cable
3. Switch the PJBox on (play mode)
4. Reinstall the Jukebox Manager software

Clicks and pops:
Make sure your CD-ROM drive is set to max. 5x speed. Some CD-ROM player will not work properly if the speed is higher during the ripping (transforming wave files into MP3 files) process.
Adjustment of CD-ROM drive speed

1. Go to the menu point “Jukeboxmanager – Preferences – Capture”
2. Adjust the “Drive Speed” to max. 5x

If you get the following error: Error at CDDB server:Unauthorized cient src-cddbagent 1.0
please follow these instructions:

CDDB access:
Select the "Jukebox" menu and the "Preferences..." menu item. This will bring up a preferences dialog box. Select the "CDDB" tab at the top of the preferences dialog. You should now see a list of CDDB servers and some options to add / delete / and reorder the list.

To add FreeDB, just type "freedb.freedb.org" into the edit box at the right of the "add" button. After typing this in, click the add button and the new server will be added at the bottom of the list.
Next, select the new server (freedb.freedb.org) in the list and click the "up" button a couple of times to move this entry all the way to the top of the list.

Error messages:
It is possible that the PJBox does not boot properly and displays an error message such as “System Error”. If that happens do the following:

1. Push the “Stop” or the “Play” button to either restart or shut the PJBox off
2. In case this does not help, remove the battery pack from the PJBox and put it back in place. After that restart the PJBox
3. In case procedure number 2 hasn’t solved the problem, remove the battery pack again and hook the PJBox via AC adapter to an electricity outlet.
4. After that put the battery pack back in place

pjbexploder wont play all tracks of music

version 1.0.31-PRE

T.O.C. Error Message.

Usually this is caused by a bad track (zero time). You should be able
to connect to the PJB and delete the offending track.Try looking at the last tracks you added.

The Jukebox does not react at all:
Use procedures 2-4 mentioned in the section “Error messages”.

"TOC is malformed, save a new one..."
This recipe will enable "Test Mode" in the Jukebox manager, and will rebuild the allocation map section of the TOC by scanning the allocated blocks on disc. It assumes that the Set/Disc/Track section of the TOC is correct.

1. Be sure that the Jukebox manager software is installed and can communicate with your PJB.
2. Be sure that the Jukebox manager is NOT running.
3. With your favorite registry editor (e.g. regedit under Windows 98), navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Personal Jukebox\Jukebox Manager\Settings
4. Click with the right mouse button on Settings and create a new "DWORD" which you have to overwrite with "SRC". Double click on the symbol before "SRC" and enter the value 1 and hexadecimal.
5. Quit from the registry editor, and run the Jukebox Manager. In the Jukebox Manager, click "Preferences" on the Jukebox menu.
6. In the preferences dialog, use the "Test Mode" tab, check the "Enable Test Mode" box, then click "OK" to save the change. Your Jukebox manager now has a "Test" menu.
7. If your PJB isn't already connected and selected in the Jukebox Manager, do that now.
8. Verify that your PJB has a reasonably fully charged battery, and/or is connected to an external power source (preferably both).
9. From the Test menu, use "Extract TOC" to make a backup copy of your PJB's existing TOC (e.g. as c:\mypjb.toc).
10. Finally, click "Rebuild Map" on the Test menu.

This takes quite a long time to run; it's scanning the entire disk. If this runs successfully, just save the changed TOC in the usual way (click "Save Changes" on the Jukebox menu).

Diagnostic-tests
The firmware 2.3.2 includes a few diagnostic-tests that can be useful for fixing some problems. This tests can check memory, firmware, harddisk and buttons. To get into the menu, turn the PJBox off and start it by pressing "down" + "left" (hold them about 3 sec.).

FAQ

1. What are the differences between MP3 and WMA?
MP3 / WMA format files are compressed digital audio files, which consumers can listen to with near CD quality. Commercial CD audio files can be compressed to MP3 / WMA format files, which are suitable for internet transmission due to their compact size and can be stored in a portable audio device. The users, for example, can record their own favorite music album, storing it in HDD in a digital audio player. 3. Why can I not format Player under win 98/ME/2000/XP?
According to the product you bought, install the setup.exe, then following the usual procedure to
format your player.

4. Why cant PC detect the player as a removal device after connecting player to PC?
Make sure you have turned the player on.
Make sure USB cable has been connected properly between PC and Player.
You have to install driver under Win98/ME.

5. How many minutes of music can be stored in the player?
It depends on the memory size your player has. For example, if we want to make MP3 music at compression rate of 128mbps(near CD quality), one minute of music will take up one MB of memory. Considering the WMA format, if we want to get the same quality music as CD, it just takes up half of the memory size the MP3 format occupy. That is, two minutes of music will take up one MB of memory.

6. How many recording time can be held in the player?
It depends on the memory size your player has. Via our internal testing, 4.3 minutes of recording will take up one MB of memory size. That is, 64MB built-in Player can record around 275 minutes of external voice.

7. Why can I not see either two drives of the player or removable card drive under win 2000? Why can we not drag and drop files from or to player?
Please visit the Microsoft website to download the windows 2000 service pack 3(SP3) software to solve this problem. Please refer to the following path:

Yes, our entire players support the Mac OS.

9. Why do I need to have the player power off before I activate the upgrade firmware function under
¡@ M1580/3550/3660 models?

If we power on the player and connect it to the computer, the player will immediately convert to the
PC Link mode, not recovery mode, so in PC Link mode we can't proceed to upgrade firmware. Even though you press the "Play" key for ten seconds in the PC-link mode, it doesn't work to switch to the recovery mode. Contrariwise, in the recovery mode, we can't drag and drop files from or to the player and have to disconnect the player from the PC and plug it to PC again to activate the PC-link mode.

10. Why does the win98 still ask me to specify the installation path again after I finish installing the Win98 driver?
